Connecting to a server

Download and install the client version of Ventrilo and configure it, so you can talk the clan in game.
Start it up by doubleclicking the file Ventrilo.exe.
This will bring up the following screen.
Set up a user name by clicking the tab on the right of the user name box.
Moving the mouse over it will display the tooltip 'Add or Edit user accounts.
This will bring the below screen up. Enter your details using the new player button,
then click play to hear your name read back to you as it will sound in Ventrilo and then click
ok to store the user.
Next, click the tab on the right of the Server box to add or edit connections.
This will bring up the below screen.
Enter the following settings for the voice server we normally have running.
- ip address = uksdoug.zapto.org
- port = 3784
- password = (ask a member for this)
This should result in the screen being completed like the screenshot below.
When this is done click ok to store the connection.
Then to connect to the server just click the connect button and you should get in.
(If not check your firewall settings and scream for help.)
Setting up a server
Download and install the Ventrilo server software.
Doubleclick the file Ventrilo_srv.exe to run server on your own computer
This should generate a dos prompt containing the server details. The crucial one being
for internet gaming is the external ip address, which in the example below is 217.44.21.179
Using the ip address, connect to your own server with your client Ventrilo software.
Then give the ip address to others people who you want to join you.
