Before the radiation leak in which he died, Rimmer was Lister's superior officer and bunkmate on
Red Dwarf and was later sadistically revived by Holly as a hologram to keep Lister sane. As a crewmember Rimmer
has been charged with ambition to wield more power than that little he enjoyed as a Second Technician in charge of
Z shift. However, he had grossly failed to live up to this ambition, a fact for which he would not take responsiblility.
His own death and the near extinction of the human race have contrived to limit his advancement forever.
In contrast to Lister, Rimmer is obsessed with tidiness, ensuring that everything was 'ticketty boo' and licketty split'.
His ship issue clothing is all neatly ordered and his exam revision charts took more time to produce than the time he
dedicated to study, a fact which saw him fail engineering eleven times and astronavigation thirteen times in his quest
to become an officer.
Rimmer has some rather unusual and obsessive interests, that the rest of the crew find unappealing. There is his
love of the Hammond Organ, his dedication to twentieth century telegraph poles and his endless accounts of his
'Risk' Campaigns in cadet school. Not surprisingly Rimmer has enjoyed little success with the opposite sex and indeed
in making other friendships, being labelled 'Bonehead at school and losing his favourite pet Lemming when it bit him on
the finger and had to be smashed against the wall to set him free.
