When the rest of his crew died in a radiation leak and the rest of mankind became extinct,
Dave Lister had the distinction of being the last human alive, as a result of him surviving in suspended animation.
However, as an example of his species Lister is a sorry excuse for a human being, with dubious personal hygiene
and even more dubious personal tastes. Typically Lister can be found plucking his nostril hair with a set of pliers or
enjoying his favourite diet of curry and beer, covered in stained attire bearing testimony to previous indulgences.

Lister was discovered on 26/11/2155 under a pool table at the Aigburth Arms in Liverpool and
later found himself to be the in-vitro fertilisation spawn of himself and Kristine Kochanski in a neverending cycle of
life, which acted to preserve the human race. In his early life Lister aimed to become a musical genius, failing
miserably yet never accepting this through his continued playing of his guitar. Further to this Lister drifted aimlessly
from dead end job to dead end job, ulimately ending up as the lowest of the low on the mining ship Red Dwarf,
as a Third Technician maintaining the vending machines. Working under a certain Arnold Rimmer and sleeping in the
Rimmer later said, 'If you had put Napoleon in quarters with Lister, he would still be in Corsica peeling spuds.'
As a crewmember listed enjoyed a brief liaison with Navigation Officer Kristine Kochanski and
had a dream of settling down on Fiji with two sons, Bexley and Speed, named after the star of his favourite Zero
Gee football team. His other love was Frankenstein, his pregnant pet cat, who after also surviving the radiation leak,
became idolised as the mother of the felis sapiens race, who saw Lister as their God and their heaven as his dream.
In his efforts to protect Frankenstein from the harsh and draconic quarantine laws, Lister is
sentenced to a period of suspended animation. As a consequence of which he is preserved for the next three million
years, only being revived upon Red Dwarf becoming safely habitable again.
